Born and raised in the small Fifeshire Village of Auchtermuchty I left school and studied electronics. I was involved in this career for over 20 years becoming an Electronics Systems Engineer.
In early 2002, being unsettled in the electronics industry I ventured to Australia for a few months and on my return to the UK in May 2002, I embarked on a three year course in web-design for Master CIW Designer status. Throughout this course my interest in photography became very strong and I quickly became more interested in the graphical aspect of the internet rather than the actual web design.
In November 2003 I purchased my first DSLR camera and by early 2004 I had achieved two International 1st places for my wildlife photography. This gave me the confidence to take things even further so in August 2005 I returned to full time education at Lauder College Dunfermline to study photography.
Throughout my time at college I continued my photography work whenever I could. The College commissioned me to cover special events such as Awards and Graduation Ceremonies, The 2006/07 Prospectus and to produce the imaging and design for six prints to be put on display in the new Aspire Centre at the College.
Whilst still attending college I produced photographs for Carnegie Trust, Falkland Palace, Saltire Hosting, Auchtermuchty Theatre and Festival Groups plus many other private commissions which included:- weddings, portraiture and architecture.
October/November 2006 saw my first successful Nature and Wildlife Exhibition at Whitehills Hospital in Forfar and in January 2007 I started with the Dundee Courier and Advertiser, on a freelance basis, covering North East Fife and the local events.
I graduated from Lauder College, or Carnegie College as it’s now known, in June 2007. I also achieved my LBIPP status (Licentiateship of the British Institute of Professional Photographers.) I am currently working towards gaining my Fellowship status within the BIPP.
